| August Notes

| The highlight of July just had to be the Scottish
Section’s North Fife run. We started off by meeting at Alf’s place in
the village of Pitlessie. This is located just about in the middle of
Fife and meant that we were well placed to make a good start.

| All the regular attendees participated, with only a couple of exceptions. Bill Keogh sadly had to turn back with a loose petrol tank, but returned by car to join in the barbeque and Bill Curry still has problems in getting reliable running on his steed, so was absent. | ||

| Using back roads for the most part, we were led
through the hills to the River Tay at Newburgh. The scenery was typical
of summer in rural eastern Scotland, with verdant green foliage of
bushes and trees, fields planted with a wide variety of crops of which
wheat, barley, potatoes are just some of the more common. However as
Fife is a major vegetable growing area you never can tell what might be
in the next field. In addition livestock was much in evidence with
horses, cows and sheep to be seen amidst the rolling hills.

| From Newburgh we stopped at Balmerino Abby which is
a scenic ruin situated on a beautiful spot on the banks of the Tay.
Later on the way back Dennis Jackson had a minor problem with a detached
oil pipe, fortunately caught before any damage could be done.

| When we all made it back to Alf’s house we finished
the day off with a magnificent BBQ. Many thanks to Alf & Iemke for
their generous hospitality.

The saga of our September camping weekend continues unabated. To recap, first it was Corran Ferry then it was Roy Bridge and now it’s Corran Ferry again. Our organiser Dennis Jackson, who went up to inspect the accommodation at Roy Bridge before booking it, decided it did not live up to the adverts and we might be better to find somewhere else. After much searching , he contacted Corran Ferry on the off-chance they might have a cancellation. On learning that they did, we made sure to reserve the accommodation and we are now happily discussing where we shall go for our runs.
